Singapore River cont.

We got off of the bumboat by the side of Merlion, at the mouth of Marina Bay. Walking back along the river on the Northern bank, we went underneath a bridge and then walked along the side of the Fullerton Building, which used to house the Post Office, and is now a grand hotel.
There are bronze sculptures all along the bank, showing how the river was used in previous eras.

This sculpture is Botero's Bird Sculpture.

We were very hot at this stage, as it was midday, so we stopped at Boat Quay for some lunch in one of the renovated trading houses.
After a lovely lunch we walked along the narrow quay, crossing the Elgin bridge, to the South bank, and made our way past the colonial buildings of Parliament House, to Empress Place which houses the Asian Civilisations Museum.

We found this museum very interesting. It features a diverse collection from Southeast Asia, South Asia, China and the Islamic world of West Asia. There was also a section on the story of immigrants who lived and worked on the Singapore River. There was an exhibit on the Treasures from the Forbidden City in China, which we found extremely interesting.
