These are the days of our lives. Our posts are intended to record and convey the experiences we are so lucky to be enjoying. The photos will hopefully make up where the posts fall short. As with all things, expect little and you may be pleasantly surprised!!

Bald Eagles on Vancouver Island

There is a pair of Eagles which we watch when we take the dog for a walk along the beach, usually on a morning, depending on the tide.

They have a very distinctive cry and they tend to stay around the same group of pine trees at the sea shore.

A couple of weeks ago we watched the two adult birds calling to two adolescent birds, it seemed that they were teaching them to fly. The adults were calling from two trees, and the adolescents were flying to them, making a lot of noise in the process.

We have not seen the adolescents since that time, so maybe they were being driven from the nest area.

Today whilst walking, we noticed the adult with some large twigs in its beak. It took them to the same tree and after a few attempts to land, we saw it putting the twigs into a nest, almost at the top of the tree.

The other adult was out on the water, which was very calm. It was flying over the water only a few inches above it, and then putting out its claws trying to fish.

Perhaps there will be new arrivals in the next few months.
